Saunders Boston Architects was appointed alongside D&B Main Contractor Morgan Sindall to complete the architectural and interior design for this landmark project.
Working collaboratively with stakeholders alongside the full project team, SBA has helped develop an affordable, inclusive facility following best practice guidance in dementia and autism alongside achieving the technical requirement of key funder Sport England whilst delivering a prominent statement aesthetic on the site of the old Marina Centre.
The new Marina Centre boasts a double frontage linking the building directly to both Marina Parade and the beach front, connected internally by a dynamic public ‘street’ running through the heart of the building. A large café with external beachside seating offers refreshments to both building users and the general public alike, offering wonderful views of the beachfront and to the sea beyond. Large glazed windows to the façade offer multiple glimpses of the main building activities ensuring the building has a varied and active shop window.
The centre includes:
• 25m 6 Lane Swimming Pool including poolside lifts • Learner Pool with moving floor • Leisure Water & Flumes • Fitness Suite • Multi-purpose Studios • Four court sports hall • Clip and Climb • Cafe
The Marina Centre was completed on time in early August 2022 for the holiday season, ensuring an extremely busy and successful opening period, drawing in a great diversity of both local visitors and tourists to the new attraction.
