This building creates a major new centre for Science Teaching and Research for Anglia Ruskin University on their East Road Campus in Cambridge. The five-storey (plus semi-basement) building provides a variety of facilities for 4 different departments.
Saunders Boston was appointed by Morgan Sindall for the technical design delivery stages of this 2 stage Design and Build Contract, including specialist laboratory design input. The interior team developed the finishes and joinery scheme working closely with MS’s supply chain.
The design utilises colours as an intuitive aid to wayfinding in a building with split levels and with very limited external views from circulation areas to assist orientation. The joinery, upholstery and finishes throughout were carefully selected to complement the urban look and feel of the project and provide great resilience to wear and tear with minimal maintenance.
