Saunders Boston was appointed as the lead consultant to design and deliver an extension to the existing Primary School in Fulbourn. The scheme incorporates 9 new classrooms, a new small hall, offices and re-modelled school entrance arranged in such a way as to link the 3 existing school buildings to provide a fully joined up considered solution.
Given the live nature of the site, the site logistics needed to be carefully considered from the design stage, influencing the design the project was delivered in 4 key phases, comprising 3 sections of new build to meet the needs of the brief plus the refurbishment of the existing school. The phasing was designed based on the need to complete classrooms, mitigating disruption and getting them operational whilst allowing the contractor to work their way out from the site which had heavily constrained access.
