SBA are thrilled to have delivered Architectural & Interior design services for Christs College, University of Cambridge.
This amazing project, which was generously funded by The Yusuf and Farida Hamied Foundation, comprised of a 64 bed student halls of residence over 4 storeys. On the lower ground, there is a music practice room (with complex acoustics), a foyer space with beautiful, cascading feature lights and a light filled atrium. The ground floor houses a reception area, fellows rooms and seminar/meeting rooms - 2 of which combine into the largest room in the College and have been designed with enhanced acoustics to allow for concerts and larger events to take place.
The project brief was to create a new accommodation court in the Cambridge College tradition and redevelop the Kings Street frontage whilst maintaining the townscape character of King Street with a link to the existing Todd Building.
This was a technically complex project with a combination of concrete and CLT structure. The building design focuses on flawless integration with the existing structure and a modern look. We are extremely proud of the end results.
