SBA was appointed by MPM Properties to act as the architect from concept feasibility stage to final handover for an exciting new hotel on a prominent site close to the River Embankment in Peterborough that assists in regenerating the area.
The development provides a 126 bedroom Premier Inn Hotel with associated restaurant/ bar/ café, parking, hard and soft landscaping on the site of a redundant Police Station providing a gateway building to the city. The scheme had to address several key site constraints, including a restriction on the building height to protect views of the Cathedral from the adjacent bridge and the island nature of the site encircled by a gyratory within a tight budget.
The external appearance of the building is simple and elegant with the window composition and decorative brickwork creating the visual interest and variation required to break up the facades of the building. The inverted corner, cantilevering brise soleil and full height glazing to the ground floor articulate the feature corner of the building creating an attractive site frontage and allowing views from the café and restaurant to the river whilst giving the building a sense of presence.
