Saunders Boston Architects is working on a regeneration project in Barnet, in partnership with Capita and Graham Construction, which has entered the final stage of development with a topping out ceremony.
The project, which consists of two new leisure centres in New Barnet and Barnet Copthall, is part of a multi-million investment by the London Borough of Barnet to improve leisure and sports facilities.
The team at Saunders Boston Architects are experts in community-focussed leisure facility design. The exciting moment of the topping out ceremony marks the project as one step closer to completion and, as such, the local community one step closer to improved leisure facilities.
The project at New Barnet will contain a 25m six lane community pool and learner pool, alongside a public library space and café. The scheme at Barnet Copthall will replace the existing centre with three pool halls; one 25m eight lane regional short course pool with provision for 200 spectators; one 25m six lane community pool to help meet the Borough’s high ‘learn to swim’ demands; and one learner pool for beginners. There will also be five court sports halls, fitness suites, multi-purpose studios and a health impact suite.
The development also recently received further funding from the National Lottery funding from Sport England. The centres are set to open in summer 2019, with the existing facilities remaining until work is completed.
