Grange Paddocks Leisure Centre

Grange Paddocks Leisure Centre

Initially SBA worked with Max Associates to develop concepts for five existing centres. Two centres Grange Paddocks Leisure Centre and Hartham Leisure Centre were considered for a potential DBOM Procurement before separate capital build and operator procurements were carried out in tandem.

At Grange Paddocks our work began by carrying out an options study supported by an evaluation matrix to ascertain where the new centre should be located within the existing park setting. This study ensured a continuity of service for the public with the existing Leisure Centre remaining fully operational throughout the build.

Having worked directly for the Council through planning SBA were novated to D&B Contractor Willmott Dixon who were appointed through ‘Procurement Hub’.

Architecturally the design responds to its environment with natural feeling materials including ‘split blockwork’ at low level with authentic ‘timber’ at high level. The design sympathises with the context through a series of ‘soft’ curved edges allowing an organic flow around the building this will also allow the building to weather ‘silver’ naturally.

The heart of the scheme is the three-pool hall which boasts a confidence water splash pad and play features, a 20m training pool with moving floor and an 8 lane 25m Regional Short course main pool. Other facilities include; a café, fitness suite, studios and community spaces.
